Competition Team At Tampa Jiu Jitsu Academy
The Competition Team is for members who want to find out what they're really made of. Competing accelerates growth in a way nothing else does — it exposes exactly what holds up under pressure, sharpens the mental game, and forges a bond with teammates who go through it with you. Whether the target is a local super-fight or a tournament podium, the team is how you get ready for it.
Competition training looks different from a regular class. It's periodized around events, more intense, and highly specific — we build a game plan, drill your best moves until they're automatic, and simulate the pressure of match day so nothing catches you off guard.
Who The Team Is For
- Members ready to commit to a competition schedule and the training it demands
- Grapplers who want honest feedback and a higher training standard
- Athletes who thrive on goals, pressure, and measurable progress
- Teammates who want to represent the academy on the podium
What Team Training Covers
- Building and drilling a personal competition game plan
- Match strategy — scoring, stalling penalties, and clock management
- Peak conditioning and pre-event preparation
- Mental performance — nerves, focus, and composure under the lights
- In-corner coaching and match-day support at events
How The Team Works
The competition class is invite-based, because the training is demanding and everyone in the room needs to be pulling the same direction. That doesn't mean it's closed off — it means we want you to have the base and the commitment to get real value out of it. Talk to a coach about joining; if you're not there yet, we'll map out exactly what it takes.
Team members train together, drill together, and show up for each other at tournaments. When one of us competes, the whole team is in that corner. That shared experience — the early mornings, the weight cuts, the wins and the tough losses — is what makes a competition team feel like family.
You don't have to be a natural to compete. Some of our most improved members were terrified of their first tournament and stepped up anyway. The team exists to carry you through that, one event at a time.
Why Compete With This Academy
You get structured, event-focused preparation and real in-corner coaching, not just 'good luck out there.'
You represent a Tampa academy with a genuine team culture. Win or lose, you're never out there alone.
Class Times

Competition Team FAQ
The competition class is invite-based. Train with us, talk to a coach about your goals, and we'll let you know when you're ready or exactly how to get there.
Not at all. The competition team is one option among seven programs. Most members never compete, and that's completely fine.
We target local circuits and larger regional events. Your coach will help you pick the right ones for your level and goals.
No — everyone starts somewhere. We prepare first-time competitors thoroughly and corner you on match day so you're never on your own out there.
